About the event
‘Imagining Future Cities: Culture + Architecture + Art’, at Empress Place, Earl’s Court on 28 June.
The panel debates the question ‘How can the arts help us build bridges with the community and design cities that serve the people who live in them?’.
Panelists:
+ Dr Georges Kachaamy, Director of the Center for Research, Innovation and Design (CRID), Professor of Architecture, School of Architecture, Art & Design at AUD
+ Matt Lally, BA (Hons) MA MRTPI FRSA, Director of international planning, design and engineering consultancy Arup, co-lead of the City Planning and Regeneration team, Non-Executive Director of the Academy of Urbanism
+ Rebekah Paczek, Director of Director of Public Affairs, Social Impact and Community Relations, The Earls Court Development Company
Moderated by:
+ Vestalia Chilton AoU, Founding Director of Kensington + Chelsea Art Week and Kensington + Chelsea Art Trail
How do we respond to the local context and define the culture of a place? Can the arts help us build bridges with the local community and how? We speak to a panel of leading architects, academics, and artists to who share their experiences, and imagine what good looks like when it comes to designing new cities.
Professor Kachaamy will give an insight in how technology (AI, VR, and AR) will affect future cities, and not only the physical ones but the virtual ones (virtual worlds/metaverse) where guests will have an opportunity to test the Imagination Lab enabling student architects to experience the cities they design through Virtual Reality technology before they are built.
The event will be live-streamed and recorded.
